Telenor believes that success is measured not only by good business results and a leading market position, but also by treating the local community in a responsible way
The first thing one thinks about in connection with the month we are in are family patron-saints' days, celebrations, feasts, Christmas trees, decorations, lanterns scattered across the dark skies above our cities, festivities, farewell and welcoming parties... To put it briefly – HOLIDAYS. This is the part of the year, the time when we are more emotional than usual. The time for seeking and offering forgiveness. The time when we make promises – first to ourselves and then to others. There are the inevitable gifts. And Santa Clause and St. Nicholas with little ones sitting in their laps, and flashlights blinking from mobile pets all around them. And why not admit it: we – the grown-ups – are not completely indifferent to the pleasure of tearing gift wrapping paper, taking off ribbons and bows. In all that bustle and commotion, the most important for us is what that very special person will say, do, or give us as a gift. That message, whatever the form it is received in, is most important. That gift is the most precious one. And at that very moment we become fully aware of the meaning of holidays. Holidays are the time when we turn to the ones we love. To the ones we sometimes, without even knowing it, overlook because of daily obligations and everyday rush.
A long time ago – and believe me, I remember those times, so it wasn't such an awfully long time ago – gifts were chosen with greater care, and the choice was scarcer. Greeting cards were sent by post, and care was taken about every detail, what we wrote and how well we shaped the letters. Many will say that with post-information era, this holiday euphoria has been lost. I believe just the contrary. During holidays, all the modern means of communication, all the things without which we cannot even imagine living any more, show their full worthiness. Only by means of these gadgets nowadays you can see and hear your favourite person regardless of where that person is or what he/she is doing. And you can do it exactly at midnight, while the clock strikes sounding last post to the past and awakening of the New Year.
That is why we are bringing you the story about holidays, an interview with Santa Clause, famous destinations for New Year's eve which you can watch at midnight on one of your handsets, tablets or laptops (in passing, just glance at the new holiday offer), a list of the most beautiful buildings for 2013, the achievements of our tennis players... This year, again, Telenor gives more – Telenor will reward each customer who buys a new handset with contractual obligation of 12 or 24 months with free calls and SMS messages with a favourite person in Telenor network, in both directions, until the end of 2014. For prepaid customers, there is an add-on called „Omiljeni broj" (Favourite Number) which enables them to speak and exchange messages without limitations during a period of seven or 30 days.
And as we are waiting for the inevitable clash of two years, one which is leaving us for good and the other which is relentlessly coming, a thought crosses my mind as stated by Eric Arthur Blair, alias George Orwell, in his novel „1984“ which was his vision of the results of growing totalitarianism: „Who controls the past controls the future“, and it makes me think that the world is indeed becoming smaller and more easily accessible, and therefore better known and safer for us. And all that thanks to a new communication era which has removed all barriers and enabled us to be witnesses of history here and now, and based on that experience create our own future, the future of our micro world, and in the ultimate sum, the future of our small planet. And there is no control, neither of the past, nor of the future. This would not be possible if we were not constantly in CONTACT. This is the new era, our era, the era we are living in. And Telenor enables us to live in that era to the full.
So, let me be brief: May all our holidays bring you joy, and we will send and receive personal felicitations when the right moment comes!
